Description

The Dumbbell Nebula (also known as the Apple Core Nebula, Messier 27, and NGC 6853) is a planetary nebula (nebulosity surrounding a white dwarf) in the constellation Vulpecula, at a distance of about 1360 light-years.  The nebula is the result of an old star that has shed its outer layers in a glowing display of color.  M 27 hosts many knots of gas and dust. Their sizes typically range from 17 billion to 56 billion kilometers, which is several times larger than the distance from the sun to Pluto. Each contains as much mass as three Earths.

This was the first stacked image I've taken with the new QHY5III715C camera that has 1.45 micron pixels.  Just amazing what can be done when you combine a small pixel camera with the RASA 8 which allows capturing distant objects normally only feasible with a long focal length telescope.  The only problem with this camera is that it is not cooled so extra steps have to be made so it can capture faint nebulosity.

Captured from my backyard in a suburb south of Chicago, Bortle 8.5 area.

Check out my summary of what I have done with the QHY5III715C camera on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CtT3R_OLhmC/
